"The Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) maintains no
records of headstone placement. If the information you cited comes from
the published work on Mississippi Confederate Grave Registrations, we
can advise that this list was compiled by the WPA sometime in the 1930s
or very early 1940s. The details in the grave registrations come from
any number of sources, including actual inspection of the burial place
or from information provided by family members. The grave registrations
do not indicate where within a cemetery a stone or marker was placed.
The intent of the WPA was to merely record that a Confederate soldier or
veteran was buried in a particular cemetery.
now notice unlike the other stone we found belonging to Alvin Roberts , which stated he had no stone, Mr M H Winburn said he had a confederate stone, this is how its listed on COnfederate graves registry
Winburn, Monteville H. Born: May 18, 1820 1st Lt; Co. A, 24th MS Inf McInnis Greene
Leakesville, MS Enlisted: Aug 22, 1861 Vernal, MS
Died: Sept 6, 1880 Discharged: Apr 26, 1865 Confederate
Leakesville, MS
See under vernal it says confederate? this stone had to have been recorded at Mciniss Kittrell cemetery as the other 2 dont have graves this old and no confederates, Mciniss Kittrell as its known now has several confederates. See if yall can convince john Kittrell this is where the stone belongs, or I will have to see about locating it elsewhere, which i would hate to do, there is know telling how many folks who have come to ur family cemetery hunting his stone through the years, his 5th great grandson has already emailed me.
