Re: Stolen Confederate Gravestones

I'm so sorry to have bothered yall during ur grieving period. I had no idea. MR john Kittrell is adament that Mr M H Winburn was never burried there, On the MS dept of archives, and confederate graves registry it clearly states he was. Mr Kittrell thinks he came from another Mcinniss cemetery as there were about 4 i have found, the record clearly states Vernal. Now i have ruled out Mciniss Greene, and the one behind the old church off vernal rd, that leaves the one in town behind the Leakesville united Methodist Church, and Mcinniss kittrell. I saw colon and 1 more Mciniss had private tombstones, Mr John Kittrell also seems unaware they were confederates, I have come to the conclusion from his response toward me, that unless i can find absolute proof that MR M H Winburn, who was the greene county represenative in the MS house when the war broke out, also a colonel in the MS Militia, that i doubt Mr Kittrell will let us return his stone there, I have hunted high and low, and i just cant find absolute proof this is where Mr Winburns grave is at. I am at a loss as to what to do, so i have been hunting for more proof. We did find Mr Alvin Roberts gravesite in Mutual rights cemetery in Avera, his stone was under MH Winburns and both were being used as steps into a ladys shed, a former Leakesville alderwoman i might add! are u aware of any other confederate stones missing from mcinniss Kittrell cemetery? I did find that M H Winburn basically owned all the land where the city of leakesville sits today, all the way to vernal river road to the tune of 2,600 acres, he had 21 slaves. The va kept no record of where M H Winburns stone was at, I have no reason to doubt the MS dept of archives, as every stone i have hunted listed on it, was exactly where it was said it was. Is there any one i can talk to besides Mr John Kittrell? He seems to run that graveyard, and is very adament the stone did not come from there. My Number is 601-770-8059

Thanx for your time, and again sorry for your loss,

Brent Waller Greene County SCV
