Thanks so much for your help. " Port of Salisbury " I believe there was a P.O.W. camp there. May have needed some repairs. Maybe Union Cavalry had paid a visit !!! James was 1st cousin to my gr,gr,grandfather David Land that served in the 13th N.C. James' brother, Thomas Charles Land served in the 1st & 53rd Inf. and was in over 65 battles. James may have had some " pull " with old Zeb Vance the war Governor !!!
