You may have this resource already, and it doesn't add much new information, but there is a book with the rosters of North Carolina Militia Units. The book is North Carolina Confederate Militia Officers Roster by Stephen E. Bradley. It was published by Broadfoot Publishing in 1992. The Amazon link is included.

James C, Land is listed on page 255 as a Lt. Col who joined on the 93rd Regiment, 23rd Brigade on 10th of May 1862.

In my search for my own NC Militia ancestor, I have found this to be a somewhat frustrating reference. It gives only the starting point, which may not be as helpful as you might think. Many of the militia units were dissolved, absorbed by regular units or converted to home guard as the war progressed.
