Not to get to far afield about ghost on the Civil War Battlefields, but exactly, What about them?

I am not prepared to say there are not any spirits, familiar or otherwise, because the Bibles plainly speaks of them. But, I don't believe in "Ghosts", as such. At least as they are popularly portrayed.

I don't understand all of this. But the Bible teaches that for a Christian to die is reward. And that he goes to be present with the Lord. Jesus told the believing theft dieing on the cross with him that "This day Thou shall be with me in Paradise". And Jesus came back as a spirit after his resurrection.

For a non believer to die it is not as clear as to that spirits immediate fate. Except that he will eventually go to the other place after judgement. The Rich man in the Old Testament spoke to Lazerus, who was in heaven, and asked him to go witness to his brothers. This account says that the Rich man lifted up his eyes being in Torment. The Bible does not say this man was in Hades/Hell, but in Torment. We read into this that Torment and Hell are the same place. But are they?

Now the Bible says that the Devil walks the earth daily seeking those whom he can ensnare. Does his desciple do the same until Judgement day? Is that what people are seeing in these reports of hauntings on battlefields, These wandering spirits?

Again, I don't know. But someday there will be an explantion if it is that important for us to understand.
