Jim, it's not my strong point. Martin could probably give more info. But I understand that well into the 1960's, those areas of the South..East TN, West NC, East KY, who had a strong Union, read Republican population, got the short end of the stick when it came to utilities, paved roads, industry, and other public projects. Looks like they were getting a little Southern Reconstruction, eh? But like I said, that ain't my strong point...Yes, I know I should use isn't, but as you know the English language just ain't my strong point. No doubt it's my Mohawk blood.
PS. Of Course we got all kinds of Republicans in the South, now, don't we?
