It absolutely true, complete with fried catfish dinner and a watermelon spitting contest. It is actually a very big deal. Supported by the State of Mississippi with funds for Economic Development. Behind the scenes there is a lot of wheeling and dealing, but the picnic is great. It's been about 10 years since I was last there.
