The 18th was with the Texas Brigade less than a year, while the 3rd Arkansas finishjed the war with them. Maybe Hood was right, and others simply assumed it was only the 3rd Arkansas who bore the sobriquet. He did say, "The 18th styled themselves the 3rd Texas." The Arkansans had it last and longer. After Fredericksburg, when Cobb's became Wofford's Brigade, the 18th, as his first command, would have been proud to bear their own designation. Even if Hood was wrong, (It WAS "Hood's Brigade", after all) it makes a good story, and there certainly was enough honor to go around for them all. (Wofford commanded the Texas Brigade at Antietam, Hood having been promoted.) Stan
