I would use stronger words than that. It is a myth not an idea in my opinion. The Federal Union didn't seem to suffer to much from 1861-65 with the Southern States in rebellion. I have yet to see any evidence of the destruction or weakening of the Federal Union during this period. I'll argue that in fact it got much stronger.

I will get emotional when ideas of putting Confederates Veterans into a category akin to foreign invaders, and promoting that the protections, laws and customs of the United States Government only pertain to those who agree with its actions or are loyal to a certain political leaning.
