And how much of your experience with muzzle loaders was on a battlefield, shooting at people who were shooting back at you? And I'm not suggesting that the whole tool was shot out of the gun, but only one of the little prongs, maybe a quarter inch long, that would have broken off in the minie ball. That would not have increased the recoil in the slightest.
But I have heard of ramrods being shot from guns in the excitement of the moment, and the fact that the shooter does or does not get a "hell of a jolt" has no relevance to the guy downrange on the receiving end.
