Re: General Leonard T. Gerow (WWII)

Hi Jim,

Yes, LTG was my dad's 5th cousin. They were contemporaries, but never met. LTG's Revolutionary War ancestor, Sgt. Daniel Gerow, a Patriot, was the older brother of my ancestor, Isaac Gerow, who as a Loyalist sold everything he owned (including two slaves) to Daniel to buy a captaincy in Roger's Rangers, later Queen's Rangers. They were from Dutchess County, NY. Isaac died of Yellow Fever in NYC right after the Battle of Monmouth. His people shipped to Canada in 1783. Daniel's people moved south to VA at some point. In '96 visited Arlington and saw the graves of LTG (VMI-1911) and his brother BGen Lee Saunders Gerow (VMI-1913).

I have often wondered if my only known CSA relation, 2nd Lt. Solomon C. Gerow, McCulloch's Texas Cavalry, is from this line, but so far no connection has surfaced.

Mike
