It has been a few years since I worked at PHP, but my recollection is that the brothers grew up in Petersburg. I think it was their grandparents who were living in Tudor Hall. Joseph Boisseau and his wife sold the house and property because of financial problems resulting from the war. The Gerows did some farming on the property but did a lot of timbering. Family tradition was that they recognized the importance of the Confederate earthworks that ran across the property and tried to protect them as much as possible. Only a few gaps were cut through the works to allow timber to be removed.
