Quite a few of them were hit in the extremities -- arms and legs, mostly; though there were a whole lot of head shots, gut shots, etc. No one got shot in the back, however. The regimental casualties appeared in clusters, mostly on April 6, 1862, at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., for the most part. With some companies having small clusters of their own -- Company E, the "Saline Guards", for example, having several men wounded at 11:00 a.m. on the April 6th.

One of the little projects I've always intended to do, but never seem to get around to it, is to graph out these casualty time-clusters and then see if I can correlate them to specific locations on the battlefield. From various after-action reports, such a detailed casualty report could provide an interesting picture of the intensity of the various assaults the 1st Arkansas made on April 6 and 7, 1862.
