I mentioned that a couple of companies of the 1st Arkansas had clusters of casualties whose times didn't match up with those of some of the other companies. Since none of the 1st Arkansas' companies were detached elsewhere during the battle, it occurs to me that those particular companies may have alternated as skirmishers ahead of the line of battle. They would have sustained casualties along the way until they bumped up against the Yankee line, at which time the rest of the regiment would have been thrown forward, in turn sustaining its own cluster of casualties. I really need to analyze all that one of these days.
