Mike, the jeep carrier we sank had been on loan to the French, probably since WWII. She was not cared for properly; it was a kindness to put her out of her misery. Navy jets holed her wooden decks with practice bombs; then a Destroyer put 15 of 18 5" 38s in her bow from 2000yds. She nosed down to the vertical, then slipped into the sea with hardly a ripple. If I had not been in a noisy chopper I might have heard her sigh of resignation. If she carried spirits with her, they were tired and ready to rest. They had plenty of company, Greeks and Romans to Germans and English sailors. May they all lie in peace, til the sea shall give up her dead. Stan
