Do you think that the Southern Planter/Slave owners who chose to continue to grow cotton and tobbacco to send through the blockade istead of growing food to feed the hungry people of the south and the POW's that they held were nicer guys? Perhaps Sherman was doing something from a tactical or strategic point. It seems to me that the Planter/Slave owner was just being plain old greedy. What say you.
