Re: Using the O.R...and Sherman's ideas

"cotton that was sent out of the south by ship"

Who is doing the selling here?

This is a a confusing statement.

Was the Confederate States of America selling this cotton in international trade?

Whose ships where these? Are you saying that the south in 1864 had a Merchant fleet?

If they were northern ships, Are you saying that they were running the Union Fleet blockade?

Is the prices quoted the price that the northern spectualors paid the southern planters? Or is it the price that the buyers paided the northern speculators?

Please explain what these statement which are obviously taken out of context are talking about. And how commerce which goes through the approved northern trade systems has anything to do with the ineffectiveness of the Union Blockade of southern ports like Mobile, or Charleston?

Your reply has nothing, in my opinion, to do with the "Effectiveness" of the Union Blockade of southern ports (the Anaconda plan), because it wasn't the Southern commerce system that was selling this cotton. The cotton being sold in these examples was cotton that was otherwise concidered as contriband and either confiscated, or "purchased" from southern grower at prices that were not dictated by fair market value.

When you have a gun to your head, or starvation at the doorstep you sell what you have at any price.
