Good things came from the Civil Rights movement. Social barriers were broken in many ways, in many places. There were also some undesirable consequences and one of them was dimenishing celebrations and education of our antebellum and Confederate heritage. It is a form of PC public discrimination. Affirmitive Action is an affront to the civil rights of everyone other than the beneficiaries and blatantly unfair and un-Constitutional.
Had it not been for the unneccessary War of Northern Aggression and the U.S. governments playing black people like pawns with the Freedman's Bureau and other schemes to pitch Southern blacks against whites, there would have been no need for Civil Rights. Slavery would have ended in relative peace, like in most European colonies, and freed black people could have assimilated into society much easier.
