What you said brought to mind Mrs. Surratt's lawyer Col. Frederick A. Aiken. He seemed to have found the injustice in Lincoln's administration. I just watched "The Conspirator", although I'm not usually a fan of Robert Redford films, I thought this one was a good subject and kept my interest.

It goes well with the book "Lincoln's Assassins Their Trial and Execution" by Swanson and Weinburg. A good reference. It was so hot the day they hung Mrs. Surratt, one of the soldiers assigned to remove the post to drop the trap under her is seen in one of the photos throwing up from the heat.
