Re: A glimmer of hope for some MIA's in WBTS

Tom, My soldier Robert Skellie 123rd NY was killed (near) New Hope Church and was originally buried on the battlefield behind the line of entrenchments. I do not think they were buried near the existing cemetery. I did not make it clear, but this was a temporary burial site and not in the New Hope Cemetery. I am not sure of the timing but he was moved to Marietta National Cemetery when burials were begun. I have seen the original sketch of the numbered (Temporary) graves at New Hope, but can not locate it now. I believe these men were killed in the fighting May 25-31st, 1864 (Pickett's Mill and New Hope fighting).

I am aware of only one Confederate in the national cemetery. I am somewhat confused about the Natchez men being buried at Marietta. Will have to discuss with Dennis and Brad.

I may be able to join you next Wednesday. I live about 20 Miles from New Hope Church. email: contact inf: rskellie@mindspring.com
