Re: A glimmer of hope for some MIA's in WBTS

Hello Ron, You're correct when I stated

I'm still a little confused about the men being sent to marietta national cemetery. I thought your original message indicated that they were part of the men originally planned for re-interment at Marietta, GA Confederate Cemetery , but were wearing blue uniforms and were removed to the National Cemetery in Marietta.

From what I can remember they were to be taken to the Confederate Cemetery in Marietta, GA. and when it said parts of blue uniforms were noticed; my thoughts were they were taken to the MNC. That was my reading between the lines when I said they probably would have taken to the MNC.

The whole thing did not make sense to me, I would think they were re-interring Union soldiers from the start during the year 66-67 at Natchez and finding parts of blue uniforms should not have been a surprise, why Marietta was even mentioned did not make sense. Also keep in mind it did not say Marietta Georgia only Marietta and my understanding was it was Marietta, Georgia.

I did get a chance to talk to Brad and in my opinion he is the correct man for the job. No surprise that we knew some of the same people. Brad has done his homework with the project and has gone to the correct places for the research. He also knew exactly where I found the information about this item in question at the National Archives and can find it as quickly as I could if I were there. He gave me the impression that he would have someone pull the two jackets at D.C. The next time I'm at the NARA I will look again myself to make sure I saw what I saw and take a photograph of it.

It's very easy to get side tracked while doing research especially when you run across something that is interesting and different but not associated with what you're doing as was this case.

While I am on the subject of side tracked Ron, there is another area you may or may not be familiar with. There are 13 unknown Confederate graves with government markers listing them as unknown along the Natchez Trail in Madison County, Mississippi. Do you know anything about them? This might be a good project for someone in the future assuming that no one as of yet has done it. It will not be me as I have my hands full for the next few years. Keep up the great work with the Mississippi soldiers Ron your research is valuable to future generations. Thx Dennis
