Re: A glimmer of hope for some MIA's in WBTS

Thanks for the reply, Dennis. Don't get me wrong about the Marietta Cemetery project. The group is being very methodical and are verifying all information. I am only assisting with names I find in letters related to men in the Mississippi "High Pressure Brigade". So far we have been able to positively identify 4 men from the brigade who we know are buried at Marietta that had not been listed previously. I am now providing documentation for a man from Company A 39th Miss. we know was killed on Kennesaw Mountain (June 1864); and two sources (A letter from his brother to his mother) and a letter from a man in his company describe his burial "In Marietta".

To my thinking, the only cemetery for burial of soldiers was the Marietta Cemetery. Rest assured, No final decisions about names on the marker are being made in a rush. My reason for seeing if someone could go to the archives is to be sure that we don't lose the resource that you "alone" know about. Just promise to tell someone esle where to look.

I'm still a little confused about the men being sent to marietta national cemetery. I thought your original message indicated that they were part of the men originally planned for reinterment at Marietta, GA Confederate Cemetery , but were wearing blue uniforms and were removed to the National Cemtery in Marietta.

Sending them all the way from Natchez does not make sense, unless maybe there were a large number of soldiers from their unit buried there. Then again, we are dealing with decisions made by government officials; not much has changed there.

Hope you and BradQuinlan connect. Let me know if that works for you.
