Re: IF THE US HAD LOST HER CIVIL WAR

#1 If someone cannot say "what the north wanted", how can you possibly say what would have happened if the South had won the war.
#2 Look up the definition of "civil war", this was not a civil war, it would have never been, had the north not invaded the south.
#3. No one can prove to me that the war was fought over slavery, true it was an issue, but mostly an issue for the south. Lincoln never mentioned slavery until 1863, the original purpose for the north to invade the south was " to preserve the union". A large percentage of the men in the south did not own slaves. So why would they march off to fight a war to protect something that meant nothing to them? Also if you go back to the mid 19th century and study just a little you will find a lot of things that you never thought of. Like there were no communication as we know it today, no TV, no computers, no radio, and most men in the south lived in rural areas where newspapers were very uncommon. So these men knew nothing about the war for slavery,
nor did they know anything about the tariffs or taxes that the north was imposing, nor did they know about states rights. So why did they leave their homes and families to fight a war, with the high possibility of not returning. They left and went to war to protect their families, and their homes from an invasion of an army that was sent into their areas to destroy every thing in sight. So tell me how was this to "preserve the union", it was not, it was to destroy the south and its way of life. The south was mainly agrarian the north was turning to industry, the south was producing around 70% of the gross national income.
So in conclusion: The north hated the south and the southern people, they could not understand our way of life, and were not willing to compromise. The north hated the black people, some states even went so far as to forbid blacks from coming into their state. By burning and destroying everything in sight hurt more than the helpless white women and children. Yankees would steal everything they could, they would take horses, cows, chickens, hogs, and any other food they could get, and what was left they would burn. Now the families in the south that did own slaves were left to starve as well as the families that did not own slaves. But the ones with slaves were now faced with feeding their families as well as the slaves, so in reality the slaves suffered far more after the Yankees came in than they did before. But it was a very rare instance where any slaves left the farms of their white families, they stayed and helped gather food for all of them. In ending I will say that if the north had lost, we would have came to some comprises over the last 150 years, and we would have a United States again, but in far better shape than we are now.
