Just a heads up for a new 4 part series starting in December on American Heroes Channel (former American Military Channel). Each episode goes through the skirmish (not sure that is what is called) or battle from a soldier's perspective, letters, military history, geographical characteristics, armor, uniforms, situations, Lee, LIncoln, and the general zeitgeist. Scholars guide the episode.
mini-series: 1. Bull Run 2. Antietam 3. Fredericksburg 4. Gettysburg
I have watched the first two - part reenactments (film quality) and scholars discussing/explaining throughout.
Now, I loved it - for you professionals it may think it is too Hollywood. I am not sure, but since I have Texas relatives that were in the CW (as well as LA) I was interested in the series' portrayal of the Texas 1st. The scholars speaking stated that the Union soldiers had a sort of fear of the 1st Texas. And I learned that the Union had units that were supposed to like special forces. I will read up on it.
Were there units, etc that were special forces? I thought many of the Confederates were untrained. Not sure though.
I would love some feedback.
I felt so sad for both sides.
