The Eastport is likely Eastport ,MS.on the TN.River.He mustered when the regiment veteranized in IL.Mattoon in May of 1864,new recruit.Moved to Memphis from there.Aug.16,1864 were involved with Forrest at Oxford,MS.3Killed 6Wounded returned to Memphis. He may have been wounded in that skirmish thus the Oct._Nov.hospitol stay.Anyway his regiment was in Nashville late Nov.early Dec.Provisional means temporary. On temp assignment because why?The regiment left Dec.15,into Northern ALA. in Feb.camped at Eastport till 3 July,1865.

My GGGrandfather 113th IL.Inf. recieved head wound at Eastport,MS. Oct.10,1864 from Forrest Artillery.I got the feeling it happened in TN.and he was brought to Eastport for treatment.

I my humble opinion he was not well enough to function in his regt.Either from wounds recieved in Aug.or many Illinois troops couldn't get used to Southern climate or military life and became sick either.Federals kept him close as if he could recover. Finally Assigned to voc when the regiment moved out again in July of 65 and he wasn't recovering.Do muster rolls say wounded?
