Galvanized Yankees - 10th Tenn.
I'm researching the involvement of Minnesota soldiers in the C. S. regiment formed in Nov. 1864 by Col. John O'Neill (Colonel, 10th Tennessee) of Federal prisoners from Millen and Andersonville. Their one battle was Egypt Station, Miss., 28 Dec. 1864, where most of them captured and sent to Alton Military Prison. They are listed in Federal records as members of "Co. A, 10th Tennessee." Many of them later joined the U.S. Volunteers and served alongside recruited Confederate prisoners on the Indian frontier. The unit commander at Egypt Station was a certain Lt. Col. "Burke," whose full name has not been recorded. I'd much appreciate contacting anyone who has researched this extraordinary unit.
Best wishes,
