Re: CSA Brush Battalion of North Texas

From what records I have, In August, 1863, J.D. Coffee and 25 men were detached from the 1st Texas Cavalry and were sent to Colbert's Ferry for picket duty and remained there until March 1864. Those men did not appear for muster and were declared deserters when the 1st Texas Cavalry was ordered to join Gen. Maxey's Division, Department of Arkansas.

When the 25 men returned to Fannin County from Colbert's Ferry and plantation, , they were reassigned to Capt.William B. Crockers Reserve Company, 14th Brigade, Precinct #3, T.S.T. Then they were assigned to the Diamond's Brush Battalion after Col. James Diamond took command of the 11th Texas Cavalry at Gainesville, Texas.
