Re: Hardeman's Regiment
In Response To: Hardeman's Regiment ()

Tom,
My gggrandfather,Prvt.W.H. Webb, was in Capt. Baker's company.Like you I was puzzled tracing this regiment.I ordered and have D.W. Baker's records to see if I could find anything. His company became Co. A,Texas Cavalry,Hardeman's Regiment.Toward the end(1864) of the war it became the 31st Texas Cavalry. It lists Michael Looscan as Lt. or Col.,I have to look it up again.I also have Looscan's records. There was a family story that Webb had a hole shot through his hat in Mississippi.I can find no record of this regiment in Mississippi. His brother was in Burnett's Sharpshooters and I beleive they made it to Mississippi.Lots of voids in the record keeping to know for sure.I would like to find someone with personal knowledge of this story.I know there is confusion with the other? 31st Texas cavalry.I think they are the same at the end. Please e-mail me and I'll try to look these records up.
