I have a copy of Howard Bryant's widow's pension application where she states that he served in the Texas 35th Liken's Cavalry, company K under the command of Capt. Bowen. It lists that he died October of 1864. He was probably wounded or died in the skirmishes in Louisiana, but I have wondered whether he was wounded there and transported to a medical facility, dying at a later date.
He lived in Van Zandt county at the time of his enlistment (or was he conscripted?) However, he lived close enough to Wood county that he might have joined from there. His descendants live in Van Zandt, Wood and Rains counties.
Mr. Bozic, I can scan and email you a copy, if you would like.
This is the only documentation that I can find to date of his service. I checked the compiled military service records at the National Archives branch in Ft. Worth. They had no record of Howard. I vaguely remember that there were some records there for Capt. Bowen.
