I was told that my Great-Great-Great-Great-Grandfather (Confederate)
Soldier: John H. Boon(e); fought for the 7th Virginia Cavalry Regiment;
Harris Company/Ashby's Cavalry.

(My problem is): I have not had any luck finding anyone called HARRIS,
associated with (I'm assuming Turner ASHBY); who was in charge of the
7th VIRGINIA REGIMENT/CAVALRY of (Old) Hardy/Hampshire County Va/W.Va.

If anyone knows of this HARRIS. Could you please explain to me, what
connection he had with ASHBY'S CAVALRY; (so I can hopefully figure out
what battle my G.G.G.G.-Grandfather John H. Boon(e) "last fought in,"
and possible would help me figure out when and where he possible died.

My G.G.G.G.-Grandmother (Widow of John H. Boon/Boone) Ruth E. Boon(e)
had filed a claim for her "Soldier Husband" John H. Boone that stated
that her husband (John H. Boone) fought for the 7th Virginia Cavalry
in Harris' Company/Ashby's Cavalry. Sorry, I don't know what (Unit)!

But, Ruth Boone filed this so called (CLAIM): dated on July 13th, 1863.

So this makes me believe - that my G.G.G.G.-Grandfather John H. Boon(e)
had to have died sometime prior to July 13th, 1863. Someone suggested
that sometimes, after a soldier was killed (or) later died from his
wounds (or) from sickness. It would often take several weeks, for the
news to be posted in a local paper (announcing the death of a soldier).

If anyone has access to the July or August 1863 Newspapers, of either
Hardy County (or) Hampshire County Virginia/present day West Virginia.
Could you (please) when you have time; see if you can find any death
notice for a (Confederate) Soldier by the name of JOHN H. BOON/BOONE.
