Ashby's Cavalry Regiment (the 7th Virginia) at one time, consisted of 22 companies. The normal cavalry regiment consisted of eight to ten companies. 22 companies was simply too many for Turner Ashby to effectively command, so, after his death, the state reorganized, and reduced the regiment to a more normal size.
I am not sure which company was Harris' and what became of that company following the reorganization.
