Thanks to all that have commented on this question. I can understand where various metal parts, whether on wagons or cannons could fail and need replacement, so I'm sure there had to be mobile field 'shop' close by. I have a book on the arms and equipment used during this time and it mentions almost everything except shoelaces, underware and of course blacksmith tools.
