This gives the duties of various members of an Artillery battery (again I assume Cavalry regiments would have similar designations) There is a distinction made between Artificer (Blacksmith) and Farrior. Keeping the 3 or 4 hundred (or more)animals in a regiment shod would be a tremendous task. I believe more than even 3 men could handle. Most routine shoeing would have to have been handled by the individual trooper/artilleryman/teamster. I'm sure the farrior would have been called only in difficult cases or perhaps if the individual soldier was inept or "green".
