I have what a believe to be a complete listing of the members of Capt. Thompson's Company H and Capt. Wright's Co. I of the 8th Confederate. There is no one by the name Emricht listed nor am I familiar with a family by that name in Tallapoosa County. I have a copy of a letter written by Capt Thompson to Beauregard's AAG giving the particulars of the battalion's operations in April of 1862 along the Tennessee River around Decatur. Beall was absent and Capt. John "Roundhead" Thompson was in command of the Battalion. According to this report, this battalion was responsible for destroying the railroad bridge over the Tennessee River at Decatur on April 12, 1862. After burning the bridge and under pressure from Federal cavalry, they fell back towards Corinth, losing all their baggage and tents as well as some weapons, horse tack and a few horses belonging to members of the battalion who were then in a hospital at Courtland. Also according to this report Capt Thompson's company consisted of 93 men, Capt Wright's - 95 men and Capt Pinckard's - 100. Interestingly, they were armed with sabres as well as small arms.
