Re: Norwoods, 43rd Ala. Inf. Regt., Co. C

Thank you Art,

My g-Grandfather, Wiley Hales and his twin brother, Wyatt Hales were both of West Greene, Greene Co., AL.
They enlisted in Capt. Jolly's Company C at Clinton, AL at the same time that the Norwood brothers enlisted.

Sometime after the war, Wiley Hales married my g-grandmother, who was a widow named Norwood. The 1870 census shows them living in West Greene and gives her name as R.G. Norwood. I have long believed that she was a war widow, but only recently learned that the Norwood brothers were also members of the same company as the Hales brothers. Being from the same community and in the same company, they would almost certainly have known each other.

Your information regarding Jordan Norwood's death at Petersburg lends weight to my theory that my g-grandmother was indeed a war widow and that Jordan Norwood could have been her first husband. This information brings me one step closer to her family affiliation.

Looking forward to my copy of Gracie's Pride.
