Clinton is just northwest of Eutaw on Trussell's Creek in present-day Hale County. Of course the location was Greene County in 1860.

As far as the county of origin for Company "C", we could expect most recruits to be from the surrounding area, which would be western Greene. The Tuscaloosa line isn't too far to the north, so it wouldn't be surprising to find some some men from Tuscaloosa County on roll. It's really not too far from Clinton to the boundaries of Sumter and Pickens Counties on the Tombigbee, so the company might also include a few men from west of the river. In any case, I'd expect the largest number of company members to be from Greene County.

Sometimes Willis Brewer erred on county assignments for Alabama companies, but rarely if ever on infantry units. If we're going to say Brewer is wrong on this company, I'd like to know specifics. For instance, using the company muster roll as a guide, I'd like to know how many original members listed Tuscaloosa as their county of residence. Failing that, we'd be obliged to use the 1860 census as a guide to determine which members lived where. If any of this information is readily available, I'd like to have an answer for this question.
