Other than Thomas, the only other Preston on the regimental rolls was Sergeant Major Joshua E. Preston.

Given that, there is an outside chance that "The Medical and Surgical History of the Civil War" could conceivably indicate when and where buried. My best guess is that those who died in a field hospital were buried closely nearby, and being Rebels, unmarked.
Someone on these message boards has access to these records, I do not know where they are found.
