Helen - Do you have his Compiled Military Service Record? There is much good information there, including a note hand-written by Jefferson Davis, but I could not find any reference to Shiloh. It is also possible that there are two men accounted for in this record. On the original muster roll in Nov. 1861, he is shown as 33 years old. At the surrender in 1865 he is shown as 42. He signs requisitions for forage in January 1862, but he may have left the company before April. There are no muster rolls between Dec. 31, 1861, when the company was still known as Capt. Boykin's company of mounted men, and May 1862, after a change in command, and when the company is known as Capt. Lenoir's Independent Company, Alabama Cavalry. He does sign a pay voucher for January and for 26 days of February 1862. Since he is not signing for two full months as would be the usual circumstance, it is quite possible that his service with the company ended on Feb. 26.
