Yes, Company "D" and the 2nd Arkansas Cavalry batt. was "officially" organized during that period of time when Van Dorn was calling for more troops as he was preparing for the Battle of Pea Ridge and his retreat to Mississippi.
In looking throught the Muster roll of that Company, it seems that these men were somewhat noted members of the western Jefferson County Community. And were quickly organized.
The same seem to be true of four other infantry company raised at the same time. Those companies of Infantry became Company "I" of Bell's 37th Arkansas Infantry, and Company "A", "D" and "K" of David Carroll's 18th Arkansas Infantry. Some of the men from Company "K" were a part of Cleburne's 1st Arkansas State troops.
