Re: records of soldiers who died from measles?

Barbara, there were two companies of "Camden Knights." The original "Camden Knights" was mustered into service on May 19, 1861, as Co. C, 1st Arkansas Infantry.

The company known as the "Camden Knights, No. 2" was mustered into service on July 23, 1861, as Co. G, 11th Arkansas Infantry.

E. C. Malone served in the "Camden Knights, No. 2" in the 11th Arkansas, and was never associated with the 1st Arkansas.

The "Camden Knights" was originally made up of members of an organization called the "Knights of the Golden Circle," a sort of pro-Southern fraternal/social/political society, whose individual chapters were known as "castles."

IN CAMP, C.K. 11TH REGT. ARK. VOL.,
Island No. 10, Tenn., Nov. 30, ‘61.

At a called meeting of Logan Castle of the Knights of the Golden Circle, the following proceedings were had, to wit:

The object of the meeting was explained by Lt. F. T. Scott, to pay the last tribute of respect to our deceased brother H. H. Kendrick, of Chambersville, Calhoun County, Ark., and a volunteer in the Camden Knights now in the service of the Confederate States.

On motion, the following named members were appointed to draft resolutions expressive of the feelings of the Castle, viz. E. A. Warren, T. F. Gwin, A. J. McKinnon, A. J. Mims and J. E. Lide, which committee reported the following preamble and resolutions, viz:

Whereas, it pleased an all wise God to take from our midst while stationed at Ft. Pillow, our much beloved brother and fellow soldier, H. H. Kendrick, there be it resolved:

1st. That in the death of our brother Kendrick, we have been deprived of a worthy and devoted “K. G. C.” one much attached to the principles of the order, and devoted to the holy cause in which we are engaged. In his death we have lost a fellow soldier in deed and in truth, one ever ready to do his country’s bidding, ever at his post, brave and generous to a fault, attached to us not only by bonds of our brotherhood, but by the depest and purest feelings of friendship, such as can only be experienced by an honest, true soldier and “K. G. C.”

2nd. We hereby tender our sincere and heartfield sympathies to his bereaved friends and relatives, assuring them that while they may regret his death as their loss, it is his gain. “Dulcia est pro patria.”

E. A. WARREN, Jr.
T. F. GWIN.
