Re: 8th Arkansas, CSA, For Bryan, if he is around

James H. Pearce enlisted in (old) Co. H, 8th Arkansas Infantry, at Jacksonport, Arkansas, on July 17, 1861, by Col. W. K. Patterson; and was mustered into service with his company at Camp Price, Pocahontas, Arkansas, on September 10, 1861, by Capt. John F. Cameron, for twelve months; his age at enlistment was recorded as 17. In the regimental reorganization at Corinth, Mississippi, following the battle of Shiloh, (old) Companies E and H were consolidated and reorganized as (new) Company C on April 18, 1862. He was detailed to remain behind and care for the sick and wounded at Harrodsburg, Kentucky, when the Confederate army retreated from there, and was captured there on October 11, 1862. He was sent from Louisville, Kentucky, to Vicksburg, Mississippi, via Cairo, Illinois, on steamer City of Madison, on December 5, 1862, and was received at Vicksburg on December 22, 1862, and exchanged. He was present for duty on all subsequent muster rolls through August 31, 1864 (last roll of record). At some point after that date he returned to Arkansas (probably on furlough) and was paroled at Jacksonport, Arkansas, on June 5, 1865.

William C. Pearce enlisted in (old) Co. E, 8th Arkansas Infantry, at Jacksonport, Arkansas, on July 12, 1861, by Col. W. K. Patterson; and was mustered into service with his company at Camp Price, Pocahontas, Arkansas, on September 10, 1861, by Capt. John F. Cameron, for twelve months; his age at enlistment was recorded as 25. In the regimental reorganization at Corinth, Mississippi, following the battle of Shiloh, (old) Companies E and H were consolidated and reorganized as (new) Company C on April 18, 1862. He spent much of the war on detached service, first as a medical clerk, then as a hospital druggist at Ringgold, Georgia, as well as a commissary clerk and ordnance guard. He was present for duty with the regiment on the August 31, 1864, muster roll (last roll of record). He applied for an Arkansas Confederate pension from Independence County in 1901 [Pension No. 19120, approved August 6, 1901]. He died in 1918.

There is a possibility that William C. Pearce joined up with the 46th Arkansas Mounted Infantry back in Arkansas after August 31, 1864. I need to explore that possibility further with regard to him and other members of the 8th Arkansas, but don't know when I'll get a chance to do that.
