Linda, after leaving Corinth, Mississippi, on May 29, 1862, the 8th Arkansas marched first to Baldwyn, then left there on June 6, 1862, and marched to near Tupelo, where they remained in camp until June 27, 1862; then traveled to Dunlap, Tennessee (in the Sequatchie Valley, some 30 or 40 miles north of Chattanooga), where they arrived on August 28, 1862. A portion of the route from Tupelo to Dunlap was by rail.
