Upon returning to the regiment after being wounded at Shiloh, Jeremiah D. Pearce was present for duty on all subsequent rolls to the end of the war. He was detailed as acting regimental ordnance sergeant on December 28, 1862, then was officially appointed as ordnance sergeant per Special Orders No. 62, dated March 14, 1863, and transferred to the Field and Staff. He served in this capacity until April 9, 1865, when the 8th Arkansas was swallowed up in the 1st Arkansas Consolidated Infantry (Army of Tennessee), and he which served in the ranks until the regiment was paroled on May 1, 1865. He was certainly no slacker.
