George W. Hutchinson (also shown as Hutcherson, Hutchison) was enlisted at De Rosey post-office, Franklin County, Arkansas, on February 1, 1862, by Capt. Leftwich H. Stone, for twelve months. Stone's company subsequently became Co. A, Clarkson's Battalion. George W. Hutchinson was captured at Locust Grove, Cherokee Nation, on July 3, 1862, and was received at Camp Douglas, Chicago, Illinois, on August 24, 1862. He was sent to Vicksburg, Mississippi, for exchange on September 3, 1862. He was back with his battlion, marked "present" on the October 31, 1862, muster roll.
Clarkson's Battalion has a very complicated history, which has been thoroughly discussed on this board in the past. You should be able to follow the discussion by searching the archives. In addition, David L. Haimerl has published a history of the battalion -- "Clarkson's Battalion C.S.A.: A Brief History and Roster" [Two Trails Publishing, 2005]. Thoroughly researched and well-written. Excellent book.
