If you have the time, since you obviously know your way around Arkansas Civil War records, maybe you can help me with one more query I've had. Have you come across information on a Newton County militia raised during the war? I know all the Arkansas counties had militias prior to the war, but this reference has had me stumped.
This is an excerpt of a 1911 book, "Historical Review of Arkansas: Its Commerce, Industry, and Modern Affairs, Volume I" by Fay Hempstead. It has an excerpt on Felix S. Baker, the son of Andrew Baker:
"...[Andrew Baker] joined the Confederate army, becoming a lieutenant in Colonel Mitchell's regiment of Arkansas infantry. He was in General Price's army and went on the raid into Missouri, but subsequently was detailed to raise a company in Newton county in support of the losing cause."
I've already found Andrew's service record as a 2nd Lt. in Powers'-Mitchells' 14th Infantry, but have not been able to find anything on this Newton County militia he helped to raise. Any chance you can help me? Thanks again.
