The 27th Arkansas book is excellent. Turnbo kept a diary for awhile, and the first part of the book is based on his diary, so there is lots of detail. The second half of the book is based on his recollection, which was remarkably good. If you had an ancestor in the 27th Arkansas, you'll definitely want the book.
I recall seeing quite a bit of his "Tales of the Ozarks" online. You might be able to find it via Google.
