"The records show that R. G. Shaver was appointed Colonel of the 7th Regiment Arkansas Infantry, Confederate States Army, July 26, 1861, age 31 years.
He was not re-elected at reorganization May 14, 1862.
He was appointed Colonel of the 38th Regiment Arkansas Infantry, C.S.A., September 24, 1862, from the State of Arkansas (born in Tennessee) . . . . Residence Lawrence County, Arkansas

Brother Bill [ her brother, Lieut. William A. Erwin, adjutant of Col. A. T. Hawthorn’s 39th AR Inf. Regt.]

W A. Erwin, age 22, Private, Capt. Porter's Company, Churchill's Mounted Rifle Regiment, Arkansas Volunteers,* enlisted June 15, 1861 at Fort Smith by Capt. Porter for 12 months, acting 2nd Lieutenant August 20, 1861, elected 2nd Lieutenant May 1, 1862, no further records

Note, he must have been dropped from the rolls on the missing Sept/Oct., 1862 muster roll, as he does not appear on subsequent rolls

* This company subsequently became Company G, 1st Regiment Arkansas Mounted Rifles
