Ken, Major Foreman of the 3rd IHG was in every major fight there was against Watie. At Newtonia the 3rd IHG was posted along the spring creek of the Ritchie property within a stones throw of the post of Waties outfit and the 3rd fought hard that day, losing a large number of horses and a large portion of the losses aside from the 9th Wisc. Foreman himself was badly wounded there and subsequently recovered at Neosho where he is for a time the post commander, organizing several expeditions and patrols against Watie and John Cofee. Then Foreman is wounded again at Cabin Creek leading a charge across the creek in the face of Waties command and again Foreman is seemingly dead set on coming to grips with Watie, in which Watie leaves the field ( I am not saying he fled). I have tracked Foreman leading small commands looking for Watie and or his unit all through 62 & 63, which of course he is suppose to do. I have found no documentation that supports anything that indicates there was a blood feud or some such going on, but given the nature of the beast and the time frame, I can reasonably conclude that there was something motivating this man as well as others. Also given that much of the 3rd IHG were former Drew's Cavalry men, that fact along indicates there had to be some kind of feud to be settled between the two sides. General Blunt noted in his records that getting the IHG to fight wasn't the problem as so much as to controlling them before or after a fight. So the question that follows in my mind is what affect did the pre-war period have on the war period followed by the Post War period. Interesting business I think.
