An undocumented (perhaps) escape was made from Gratiot Street Military Prison Hospital Feberuary 16, 1864 by five men which I am researching. I have checked the Official Records but find no mention of it. A Feb. 20, 1864 Report of the Prison and the Hospital was done that mentions Surgeons George H. Hood and B. B. Breed, the latter being Hood's replacement but don't know if this inspection was planned or because of the escape as it is not mentioned. See Series II Vol. 6 pg 981-982. Perhaps the St. Louis Newspapers carried this story. Does anyone know?
