Re: The Lafayette County Warrens

Yeah, James, I found it. After I saw your site and did a little digging on Ancestry, I went to FindAGrave and found them.

What's bugging me though, to the point of relentless research, is Lawrence. I have corresponded with Mark Geiger and he said he got his info for his book from Donald Hale's "Branded As Rebels: Volume One and Two." I checked them both and there is NO mention of the Warrens at Lawrence. None! It's just the German settlement raid in July 1863. I am wondering if the assumption is made that they were at Lawrence OR somewhere, out there, there is a mention of them actually being there! Mark said his source was just B.A.R. One and Two.

I would THINK....THINK they were at Lawrence since Poole, Anderson, Hockensmith, Clement and cousin, Will. Greenwood was. BUT.....we know 'thinking" and assuming is a very dangerous thing to do. Bruce Nichols told me that I can always say "maybe", "possibly", but I told him that is kinda dangerous too since there were probably 1,000 men who "possibly" were at Lawrence. At least, by their own tall tales and embellished family stories.

I am hoping maybe some Lafayette County historian (if one of you are reading this) might know about the Warrens from old history. Lafayette County books barely mention them at all! I went through all of the Lafayette Co. books at the Mid Continent Genelaogy Library in Independence, MO. and the Warrens are barely mentioned. So there's no "guerrilla" writings or history of the Warrens. I have a very sick and sinking feeling that maybe there is something mentioned of the Warren boys at Lawrence buried deep in Lafayette Co. newspaper archives that are stashed or tucked away somewhere! I have exhausted everything I can think of. Heck, I even found a woman on Ancestry that had some good info on them with a few pictures of Martin's children. But even SHE was searching for the Warren "Lawrence" proof!

If you are a Lafayette County, Missouri historian....please let us know something!

Richard
